Parenting a red child is no joke, but these children need your guidance and direction, so don’t shy away from them. They need to know you will love them even though they are hard. Our strong-willed kiddos are SMART. They know they can be difficult, so when you stick with them and don't give up on them, it means the world to them.

1. Be consistent and fair.

Don't be fooled, your kids are ALWAYS paying attention. If you say one thing and do another, they are learning from what you DO. If you tell them there will be a consequence for certain behaviors, follow through. If you have more than one child, make sure your consequences are of equal weight for the same infractions. Your strong-willed children will respect your confidence.

2. Be loving but firm.

These children can sniff out a weak link from a mile away and if it's you momma, you're in trouble! Stand your ground. If you give an inch, they'll take a mile the next time. All kids want boundaries, but your strong-willed child is more willing to push against your boundaries to try and move them. Stand your ground, be the authority they need (and truly the one that they want.)

3. Give this child credit for all of their hard work and accomplishments.

Your strong-willed kiddos respond well to praise! They are full of potential and if they think there's a chance for a reward, they'll rise to the occasion. Tell them you appreciate them, publicly praise their behavior or hard work, and they will move mountains for you.
